How to care for your slippers

Slippers are (to our, admittedly rather obsessed, way of thinking!) one of the best things about home. If you have good ones – like Shaffays – then they will not only be a joy to wear but also protect your feet around the house. If you are wearing yours a lot, and if you want to keep them looking and feeling great on your feet, then you need to give them a little TLC every now and then.

Most of the tips below apply to any slippers but we have, of course, included some information about how to take special care of your lovely soft nappa leather Shaffay slippers.

  1. Clean your slippers regularly

Slippers can collect dust and dirt so it is important to clean the regularly. On fabric slippers, use a soft-bristled brush to remove accumulated dust and dirt. If they are made of a washable fabric such as microfibre or cotton, they can be hand washed in water with a little mild detergent.

Your nappa leather Shaffay slippers can simply be wiped over with a damp cloth. If you find that the leather has scuffed from contact with furniture, then you can apply a small amount of a good leather cream and give them a polish. We recommend TRG shoe cream, which is a soft cream wax that includes beeswax among its ingredients. It nourishes the leather and gives it a shine. Plus, it comes in colours that match those of The Shanghai, The Cairo, The London and The Paris – the slippers in our Signature collection.

  1. Air your slippers

Slippers can get sweaty and damp, especially in warmer weather. You can keep them fresh by airing them regularly. Simply leave them in a well-ventilated area for a few hours to dry out thoroughly.

  1. Store your slippers properly

When you are not wearing your slippers, it is important to store them in a cool dry place and away from direct sunlight – to avoid colour fading. Try to avoid piling other footwear on top of your slippers as this can damage them or at least destroy their shape.

If you take your Shaffay slippers with you when you travel or visit friends, protect them by storing them in the silky dust bag that we provide.

  1. Know when to replace your slippers

Finally, it is important to know when to replace your slippers. Like all good things, slippers do not last forever. Worn out and misshapen slippers can cause discomfort and even injury – especially if they are starting to fall off your feet. Shaffay slippers are well-made with high-quality materials and should last much longer than your average slippers. However, all slippers need replacing eventually. When yours start to look shabby, it is time for a new pair.

Following these simple tips to give your slippers a little love and attention will keep them in good condition and your feet comfortable and looking great!
